FP Collies is located in south west Victoria on a working beef farm. Our breeding program began in 2011, when we moved to our present farm in Irrewarra. 3 Border Collie pups came with us and called this place home. Milo, Mylie and Misty. The 3 pups came from the Blue Mountains, NSW, Port Macquarie, NSW and Orbost, Vic. Based on the temperaments, intelligence and natures of the these 3 initial dogs, we decided to try breeding and be able to share these wonderful dogs, with others. And so began FP Collies. Over the years we have had many dog owners return for a second pup and even a third. Over 50% of our new homes for puppies, are existing FP Collie owners or have been recommended by an FP Collie owner. Our breeding program mainly descendants of our original dogs, but we have added blood lines from as far away as Longreach & Bundaberg in QLD. We have up to 4 generations of these, original dogs.
Miley was not only my best friend but also an exceptional working dog, with brilliant people skills.
No matter what I was doing on the farm, or if I went to town or simply out she wanted to come. Many hours were spent in the tractor cab, on the quad bike or ATV, or beside me in the ute. I had to provide a very good reason to her if she was unable to come. And when I would return home, I would have to pass the sniff test to ensure, I had not fraternised with other dogs.
Milo one the other hand was a big goofy boy. He was everyone's mate, big, affectionate, and quirky. Always wanting to help, well if I didn't get it right, at least I looked good in what I did, was his attitude. Misty the loyal number 2, always there, very protective of any new born animals, be it a new foal or a sick calf. Misty would sit and watch and protect all day and night, until she was satisfied they were strong enough to be on their own.
It was this gentle loyal and loving traits, that inspired me to breed Border Collies. It's, now their daughters, sons and grand children now filling this role. I breed, to share the love I have for these amazing dogs.
